Dr. Eric Balcavage and Dr. Erica Riggleman discuss the relationship between thyroid hormones and GI function.
Many patients who have thyroid hormone problems have constipation or other common GI symptoms including reflux, heartburn, gas, bloating, indigestion or diarrhea. While medications can be prescribed to reduce symptoms, if a person has low cellular levels of thyroid hormone (cellular hypothyroidism), they are likely to develop a number of disorders and diseases including Hashimoto’s disease.
The doctors dig into this topic in some depth and conclude the topic on a follow-up podcast.
